Zane walked down the corridors with a playful heart. He didn’t quite know why he was so ‘chipper’ today but for whatever the reason he had woken up with the feeling of an ease. It made him happy to know that his life was not so terrible as some of his kind. His family was loving and caring towards each another, and no one in the school knew much about his ‘condition’ so there was little prejudice. He only wished that he had close enough friends that he could share his heritage without fear of…well…their fear. He knew why most people reacted the way they did, after all he was half vampire. Still, it would be nice to be able to share with someone aside from his siblings. As Zane allowed his mind to think this over he turned the corner towards a flight of stairs and climbed them knowingly. Once his body had reached the top a bright light stared into his eyes through the large doors of the Great Hall.
From where he paused in his step Zane could see various members of his family at their assigned tables. Some seemed weary in the early hour, other happy like him. He moved then to seat at his own table and began to eat with his peers. As he ate he spoke to various members of his house and even managed to make a few girls laugh. He liked when women laughed, there was something so poetic about it. Finishing his meal and realizing he had lingered for too long Zane made his way towards class. He worried over being late and felt the ease from before falter. After all, a detention was not on his ‘to do’ list for the day. Sighing deeply and picking up his pace Zane attempted a half run / half walk movement, but it rather looked more like a skip than anything.
It was in his thoughtless rush that Zane made his first mistake of the day. He ran right into a solid figure that sent his reeling backwards and into the nearest wall. Surprised, Zane transferred his worry from his tardiness to the person he had hit. He hoped that he had not injured them and turned his dark gaze from the floor to their frame, searching for possible bruising. ”I’m sorry, are you alright?” He asked, not quite knowing what else to say. He felt foolish for having not been watching where he was going and of course by now was late for his first class. Oh, well. He felt it was more important to make sure the other person was alright first.
